Field Notes from Sevilla: 7 Coffee Shops that made us Slow Down

A Creative’s Guide to Working, Creating & Finding Belonging in Sevilla

FIELD NOTES ON  BEING HUMAN: 001 · SEVILLA, SPAIN

School of Ikigai, By Suzanne Kanso

Best coffee shops in Sevilla, Spain

There are cities you discover through their monuments.

And then there are cities you discover by sitting down.

Sevilla was the latter for me.

Over several weeks of living and working from this sun-soaked corner of Andalucía, some of my most memorable moments didn’t happen at the places a guidebook told me I needed to see.

They happened around little tables.
Over cappuccinos.
While writing
While building.
While talking to strangers who eventually stopped feeling like strangers.

As an Earthpreneur, solo founder and creative, I’ve learned that where you choose to create matters.

When you’re building something largely on your own, the right café can become more than somewhere to open your laptop.

It can become your painters garden for the morning.
Your thinking room.
Your reset button.
Your community.

Sometimes, strangely enough, even a little piece of home.

So this isn’t quite a list of the “best” coffee shops in Sevilla.

These are seven places that held different parts of me while I was there: the founder, the writer, the dreamer, the woman who occasionally needed to close the laptop and simply remember that she was alive.

Consider these my Field Notes from Sevilla.

THE FIELD GUIDE · SEVILLA

Best for community + coworking: Florinda Collective
Best for creative energy: Jester Coffee
Best for quiet focus: Syra Coffee
Best for coworking environemnt: Late Specialty Coffee
Best for food + soul: Beirutina
Best for journaling: Cuento Coffee
Best for slowing down: Delatribu

🌺 1. Florinda Collective – The One That Felt Like Home away from Home

📍 Calle Trajano

Women-owned café & dedicated co-working space

If I had to explain what I mean when I say that a space can hold you, I’d probably bring you here. Florinda is a beautiful women-owned café and coworking space, but describing it that way doesn’t quite capture it.

There is something deeply welcoming about this place.

I came to work and somehow found myself meeting collaborators, clients and new soul sisters, all somewhere between flat-whites and conversations.

The architecture is beautiful. There’s a dedicated coworking area and reliable Wi-Fi. But what stayed with me wasn’t the furniture or internet speed.

It was the feeling.

People actually speak to each other here.

And then there is the detail my gluten-free humans will appreciate enormously: Everything is gluten-free. Yes. Everything.

The kitchen is also vegetarian and vegan.

IKYK.

Come Here For:
Creative work, coworking, meeting people, founder days and those mornings when working alone feels a little too… alone.

A little tip: Go early. There’s a beautiful calm before the lunchtime energy arrives.

Field Note
Sometimes belonging begins somewhere incredibly ordinary: when a place remembers to make room for you — To the amazing team of women Ana Rafaela y Kiara, gracias!
🎶 2. Jester Coffee – The one that Brought the Energy Back

📍 Calle Asunción

Some days aren’t meant for deep work.
Some days you need music. Light. Movement.

A little energy around you to remind your brain that perhaps civilization hasn’t ended because you can’t figure out the opening sentence of an Instagram caption.

Jester became one of those places for me.

The playlists are lively, the owner is a Vibe of his own and the space has the kind of light that makes you want to create something.

I loved coming here when I wanted to brainstorm, write content, play with ideas or shake myself out of a creative block.

Come Here For:
Content creation, brainstorming, writing, lighter work sessions and getting your creative energy moving again.

Field Note:
Creativity doesn’t always need more discipline. Sometimes it needs a change of energy.
🔇 3. Syra Coffee (Rioja) – The One for Locking-In!

📍 Calle Rioja

Then there are the days when the world needs to kindly stop speaking to you.

Syra was that place.

Minimal. Uncomplicated. Good coffee. Fewer distractions.

When I needed to concentrate, write something that required my whole brain, edit, prepare proposals or get into a proper flow state, I came here.

There’s something lovely about a space that doesn’t demand your attention.

It simply lets you work.

Come Here For:
Deep work, writing, editing, planning and focused solo-founder sessions.

Field Note:
Not every space needs to inspire you. Some of the best ones simply give your thoughts enough quiet to find you.
👥 4. Late Specialty Coffee & Co-Working – The One Built for Creating

📍 Calle Amor de Dios

Late understands something many coworking spaces get wrong:
People need both connection and concentration.

The layout feels intentional, with enough social energy to remind you that other humans exist, while still giving you room to disappear into your work when necessary.

For solo founders and creatives building something of their own, that balance can be surprisingly important.

Because entrepreneurship can give you freedom while quietly removing the everyday human contact that traditional workplaces provide.

This is the kind of place where you can spend a few hours building your business and still leave feeling like you participated in the world.

Come Here For:
Founder workdays, structured coworking, meeting other entrepreneurs, deep-focus sessions and good espresso accompanied by actual conversation.

Field Note:
Independence is beautiful. Isolation isn’t the price we should have to pay for it.
🇱🇧 5. Beirutina –That Place that Makes you Feel Fairouz Nostalgia

📍 Calle Fernán Caballero

And then Sevilla gave me a little piece of Lebanon. Habibi, obviously I was going in.

Beirutina isn’t a dedicated workspace, and I wouldn’t treat it like one.
That’s part of its charm.

Come for the coffee.
Stay for the man2oushe – Lebanese Za3tar “Thyme” pie.
Order the hummus, the fatteh then follows the tea with the Knafé.

Talk to the people — the owners make you feel like home. Merci 2elak Richard.

Let yourself be taken care of properly.

As someone with Lebanese roots, there is something difficult to explain about encountering the food, sounds and hospitality of home when you’re somewhere else in the world.

Sometimes belonging isn’t geographical.
Sometimes it arrives on a plate.

Come Here For:
Creative planning over brunch, slower work sessions, conversations and those days when your body needs nourishment as much as your ideas do.

A Small Note: Be mindful with laptops, particularly during busy periods and weekends. We prefer a notebook and pencil. This is a restaurant first. The owners and staff are wonderfully welcoming, and that hospitality deserves to be treated with the same care.

Field Note:
Home isn’t always a place you return to. Sometimes it finds you somewhere unexpected.
🍬 6. Cuento Coffee – The One for Coming back to Yourself.

📍 Calle Rosario, Centro

Cuento became my reset place.

Not necessarily where I went to conquer an enormous task list.
Where I went when I needed to hear myself think again.

Slow mornings.

Coffee.

Turkish delights.

A journal.

Ideas without deadlines attached to them.

There’s a particular kind of clarity that appears when you stop demanding an answer from yourself.

This was where I’d reconnect with ideas before turning them into strategies, deliverables and all the other wonderfully unromantic things required to make a vision real.

Come Here For:
Journaling, solo CEO dates, creative ideation, reflection and gentle work mornings.

Field Note:
Sometimes the most productive thing a founder can do is stop producing long enough to remember what they’re building toward.
🐎 7. Delatribu (Casco Antiguo) – Slow Mornings & Serendipity

📍 Old Town, near Plaza del Museo
Most soulful coffee shop in Sevilla for visionaries

This one isn’t really about working.

It’s about remembering to stop.

You sit with your coffee while horses pass along the cobblestone streets.

There’s soulful music, handwritten menus and something wonderfully unhurried about the entire experience.

Get to know Adam, the owner.

Listen.

Watch Sevilla happen around you.

Delatribu feels less like somewhere you’d set up an office and more like a page you’d accidentally walked into from a travel memoir.

And perhaps that’s exactly why it belongs on this list.

Come Here For:
Reflective mornings, offline planning, journaling, visioning and staring into the distance while pretending you’re solving important strategic problems.

A little FYI: Seating is limited, literally to 2,  so this isn’t where I’d arrive expecting to set up laptop headquarters for three hours.

Come differently.

Bring your notebook. Or don’t bring anything along  and just sit, people-gaze, and allow life to unfold in front of you.

Field Note:
You can travel halfway around the world and still miss the place entirely if you never look up from what you’re building.

🌸 A Field Note Beyond Coffee: La Tarentina Floristería –The One that Reminded Me People are the Real Guidebooks
📍 Bella Vista

This isn’t a café.
It belongs here anyway.

Because some of the best discoveries while travelling aren’t businesses.
They’re people.

Meet Rocío, the radiant soul behind this beautiful Sevilla flower shop.

Best Flower Shop in Sevilla

She’s a florist owner.

But she’s also one of those humans who seems to carry an unofficial map of her city and the sweetness of Andalusia within.

Stories. Connections. Local knowledge. Pure Magic in her Spirit.

Even recommendations for soulful, lesser-known places to stay that you probably won’t find while endlessly scrolling booking platforms.

And that is something I’ve learned again and again while travelling:
Talk to people.

The internet can tell you what’s popular. A human being can tell you what’s special.

Field Note:
Sometimes the place you’re searching for isn’t on the map. Someone has to tell you about it.
☀️ The Final Field Note: The Places that Hold Us

I came to these cafés to work.

But looking back, that’s not really what I remember about them.

I remember conversations.
I remember the people behind the counters.

I remember feeling unexpectedly at home.
I remember sitting alone with an idea that didn’t quite make sense yet.

I remember looking up from my notebook and realizing that there were horses walking through Sevilla.

I remember vivid visions of my ancestors

That’s the strange thing about building a life.

We tend to remember the big decisions.
The business we started.
The country we moved to.

The dream we finally pursued.

But our lives aren’t actually lived entirely inside those milestones.

They’re lived in the spaces between them.

At little tables.

During morning walks.

Over coffee.

In conversations we didn’t schedule.

In places that give us permission to stay a little longer.

The Ikigai Lesson:

We often think Ikigai has to be something enormous.

A calling.
A career.
A singular purpose we’re supposed to uncover and then heroically devote our lives to.

But some of the things that make life feel worth living are much smaller.

A familiar table.
A beautiful morning.
A conversation with someone new.
A place where you’re known.

Twenty quiet minutes with nowhere else to be.

Perhaps that’s why cafés matter more than we give them credit for.

We’re not always looking for somewhere to drink coffee.

Sometimes we’re looking for somewhere to think.
Sometimes we’re looking for inspiration.
Sometimes we’re looking for other people.

And sometimes, without quite realizing it,
we’re looking for somewhere to belong.

Stay a little closer. ✨
